The Assessment Process
1. Initial Appointment
2. Assessment Testing and Clinical Interviews
3. Feedback Session and Final Report
Book a consultation with Melissa to gather background information and understand the child or teenager’s current challenges. It typically involves meeting with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and sometimes the young person, to discuss developmental history, school performance, behavior, emotional wellbeing, and family dynamics. This session helps clarify the goals of the assessment and is a great opportunity to ask any questions you might have. Please bring along any allied health reports if you have any. If Melissa recommends an assessment and you are happy to proceed, you will book and pay for their assessment at the end of this appointment.
Your child/teen will attend further sessions with Melissa. In this stage, a combination of standardised questionnaires, tests, one-on-one interviews and observations are used to explore the young person’s cognitive, emotional, social, and behavioural functioning. These may include input from parents, teachers, and the child/teen. The goal is to build a comprehensive understanding of the individual's strengths and areas of difficulty. The number of sessions and their length varies depending on the assessment type. No fees at any of these appointments, as you have pre-paid this.
Once the assessment is complete and Melissa has carefully reviewed all the information and findings, you will have a feedback session. This is typically held with the parent(s)/guardian(s) - and the child or teen when appropriate - to explain the findings in clear, supportive terms. Recommendations are provided to guide treatment, school support, or further referrals. You will also receive a detailed report. This appointment, like the initial consult, is a seperate fee to the assessment and is paid at the end of the appointment.
